How to generate a YouTube description in 3 steps

  1. Paste the link to your video above. Public and unlisted videos both work: upload as Unlisted, write the description, then publish.
  2. Open the AI tab and choose Description. The tool reads the video's captions and writes a description in three parts: opening lines, overview and chapters.
  3. Copy it into YouTube Studio. Add your own links (shop, social, sponsor) at the end, and check the chapter titles read the way you'd say them.

A description run costs 2 credits. Without an account you get 3 free AI runs a day; a free account starts with 60 credits.

What the description looks like

PartWhat it doesLength
Opening linesSay what the video gives the viewer, with the main search words earlyThe first two lines
OverviewA few sentences on what's covered and for whomA short paragraph
Chapters"0:00 Intro" lines that split the video into sectionsOne line per topic

The opening matters most. Under the video, YouTube shows only the start of your description until someone taps more, and search results show a snippet of it too. Two clear sentences beat a wall of links.

Chapters: the part most descriptions skip

When a description has timestamps in the right format, YouTube turns them into chapters: the progress bar splits into sections, and viewers can jump to the part they need. YouTube's rules for chapters:

  • The first timestamp must be 0:00.
  • There must be at least three timestamps, in order.
  • Each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.

The description generator writes the chapters to fit these rules. If you only want chapters, the timestamp generator writes 4 to 12 of them on their own, for 3 credits.

Where do you paste the description?

On a computer (YouTube Studio)

Open YouTube Studio → Content, click the video and paste into Description on the Details page. Click Save. YouTube allows up to 5,000 characters, so there's plenty of room for your own links below the generated part.

iPhone and Android (YouTube Studio app)

In the YouTube Studio app, open the video, tap the pencil, tap Description, paste and Save. Tap Copy in Tube Snip first; the whole description, chapters included, goes to the clipboard in one go.

In other languages

Pick a language under Answer in to get the description in that language, then add it in YouTube Studio under Languages for the video, so viewers see it in their own language.

What should you add by hand?

The generator writes what the video says. You know what it can't:

  • Links: your website, shop, newsletter, the products you mention.
  • Sponsor disclosure, if the video is sponsored.
  • Credits for music and footage you used, including Creative Commons attribution lines.
  • Hashtags: YouTube shows up to three of them by your title, the ones it considers most engaging (YouTube Help).
  • A pinned call to action, like "Subscribe for a new recipe every Friday".

YouTube description generators: Tube Snip vs other tools

When we asked Google's AI Overview and Perplexity for the best YouTube description generator in October 2026, vidIQ and Descript were among the tools they named, and many creators simply use ChatGPT. Each tool's facts below were checked on its own website on 19 October 2026. Whatever you use, YouTube's own tips for video descriptions still apply: describe the video in the first few lines, and use your main words in both the title and the description (up to 5,000 characters).

Who uses it

  • Solo creators who'd rather spend the time on the next video than on writing descriptions.
  • Podcasters who upload full episodes and need chapters for every guest topic.
  • Teachers posting lessons where students jump to one part before an exam.
  • Agencies managing many channels, with the same structure on every upload.

The rules

Descriptions should describe the video honestly; misleading descriptions break YouTube's spam and deceptive practices policies. Credit any footage or music you didn't make: your own, Creative Commons or used with permission.

Questions about this tool

Is the YouTube description generator free?

You get 3 free AI runs a day without an account. A description costs 2 credits, and a free account starts with 60 credits.

How long is the generated description?

Between 150 and 300 words: an opening, a short overview and chapters. YouTube allows up to 5,000 characters, so you can add links below it.

Does it add chapters automatically?

Yes. The chapters start at 0:00 and follow YouTube's rules, so the progress bar is split into sections once you save.

Why don't my chapters show on YouTube?

YouTube needs the first timestamp at 0:00, at least three timestamps in order, and chapters of 10 seconds or more.

Can I generate a description before publishing?

Yes. Upload the video as Unlisted, wait until YouTube has made its captions, then paste the link here.

Can I get the description in another language?

Yes. Choose one of more than 50 languages under Answer in, then add it in YouTube Studio under Languages.

What should I add myself?

Your links, any sponsor disclosure, credits for music and footage, and up to three hashtags.

Questions

Before you download

Why do some downloaders give me HD video with no sound?

In HD, YouTube serves picture and sound as two separate streams. Tube Snip downloads both and joins them, so every file in the Video tab plays with audio.

Can I paste just the video ID?

Yes. Paste the 11 characters after v= and it works the same as a full link. Shorts links, youtu.be links, embed links and links with a start time all work too.

How do I share a video from the YouTube app?

Install Tube Snip from your browser menu ("Add to Home screen" or "Install app"). Then in the YouTube app tap Share and pick Tube Snip; the video opens here, ready to download or summarise.

What are credits?

Credits pay for AI work. A transcript costs a few credits and a script blueprint costs more; the table above shows each tool. Downloading never uses credits. Unused monthly credits do not roll over; credit packs never expire.

Is downloading YouTube videos allowed?

Download your own videos and videos you have permission to use. Each result shows the video's license. Creative Commons videos can be reused with credit; standard-license videos need the creator's permission. We remove videos after valid copyright requests.

Which AI models do you use?

We route each tool to the model that does it best, from providers like Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. Best quality uses a stronger model and costs twice the credits.
